what is hyperhidrosis?

A condition characterized by abnormally excessive sweating that usually affects the hands, feet, underarms or face. Normally, our body produces sweat in order to regulate body temperature. However, when the nerves that control the sweat glands overreact, we produce excess sweat.

Common traditional approaches to managing hyperhidrosis include prescription medication and clinical strength antiperspirants. If these treatments are not working well for you or if you’re looking for more lasting treatments, GMA is here to help!

Botox: can be administered to treat hyperhidrosis which works by blocking the nerve signals that are responsible for sweating, causing the sweat glands to be less active and thus producing less sweat. Treatment typically lasts anywhere between 6-12 months and repeat treatments can be administered when effects begin to wear off.

If you are experiencing hyperhidrosis on the palms and feet, we recommend this option, given that Infini RF Microneedling is not appropriate for these areas.

Infini RF Microneedling: Infini brings a whole new perspective to the hyperhidrosis treatment paradigm. Infini can treat all areas of hyperhidrosis (except for the hands and feet) with minimal risk. The heat from Infini – High Intensity Focused Radiofrequency (HiFR) – is placed at the level of the sweat glands, which reside at the deep dermal layer or upper subcutaneous layer. Results will be permanent because once the glands are destroyed, they don’t grow back. Patients estimate that they get 50-75% improvement in their sweat in one treatment. Most patients are happy after one treatment but up to 3 can be done if necessary.

At GMA, Infini is our preferred treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in the underarm area).
