What is Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are made from synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a type of sugar that is found naturally in the skin and cartilage. HA is important for youthful skin as it binds to water and keeps the skin hydrated and plump.
In hyaluronic acid’s natural form (long chain HA), the substance is a liquid which the body metabolizes in about half a day. HA in dermal fillers is crosslinked (chemically modified) so that it is changed into a gel form and lasts much longer once injected inside the facial tissue. When HA is in the gel form, it absorbs water and swells, giving it the ability to add volume and smooth and fill.
The GMA 3D Harmony Approach with dermal fillers
We’re all unique, and we want to keep it that way. Our job is to enhance, not to change. This is how we help you achieve natural results that fit you.” – GMA Clinic

We use dermal fillers for 2 reasons:
Reason #1:
To aesthetically enhance and define facial features such as the nose, chin, lips, and cheeks, while achieving facial balance and harmony. To yield natural, beautiful results, we do not look at individual parts and features in isolation, but rather everything as a whole.
Reason #2:
To restore a more youthful appearance:
✔️ Filling areas where patients have experienced volume losses as a result of aging
✔️ Minimizing the appearance of deep static wrinkles
✔️ Skin tightening and lifting with fillers

Non-surgical Nose Augmentation
The shape and size of our nose have a tremendous impact on overall facial harmony as this feature sits right in the center of the face. Even a small, seemingly insignificant change could make a substantial, powerful difference. When we perform a non-surgical nose augmentation, we are not only improving the nose itself but overall facial balance.
Depending on the patient’s goals and needs, nose fillers may be used to:
✔️ Reduce the appearance of a dorsal hump and straighten the nose
✔️ Improve shape and definition of nose
✔️ Lift the tip and reduce droopy nose appearance
✔️ Increase the height of the nose bridge
✔️ Enhance deviation and symmetry of the nose
✔️ Improve overall facial balance and harmony

Non-surgical Chin Enhancement
This procedure involves administering dermal fillers precisely to sculpt the chin and enhance the patient’s overall facial appearance. Chin fillers may help lengthen and/or project the chin to correct a weak or receding chin. Patients who are looking to achieve a slimmer, more V-Shaped face may also benefit from this treatment.
Chin fillers may “fill” hollowness and assist with improving the appearance of marionettes and lower face skin laxity.

Tear trough/under eye/ dark circles fillers
Genetic factors and natural aging may contribute to the appearance of dark circles and sunken eyes (also known as tear troughs). As we age, a combination of factors including a weakening of the orbital septum, thinning of skin in the undereye area and volume loss in the cheek and midface area, contribute to and emphasize the appearance of undereye dark circles and hollows. Such factors may also lead to the formation of eyebags and puffiness below eyes. One of the ways we can effectively and immediately treat undereye hollowness is with fillers. For the treatment of tear troughs, we use a filler engineered specifically for the undereye area known as Teosyal Redensity 2. In addition to hyaluronic acid, Teosyal Redensity 2 contains other skin rejuvenating ingredients including zinc, copper, vitamin B6, glutathione and more.
While the selection of product is important, having an experienced injector perform the treatment is key. Due to the fact that the skin is relatively thin with many fine blood vessels below the eyes, the injector must use specialized techniques to ensure a safe treatment and natural results.

Lip injection/lip fillers
There has been a growing demand for lip fillers in order to volumize and define one’s pair of lips. While it has been an aesthetic trend to add more volume, the appropriate shape, size and proportion of the lips depend on the individual patient’s facial features and characteristics. Beautiful lips are only beautiful if it contributes to a balanced facial appearance. That is, the lips have to harmonize with the patient’s nose, chin, face shape, and other features. For this reason, during the consultation, our experts will carefully assess to determine the most suitable, yet satisfying treatment that will yield the most natural-looking lip enhancement.
Lip fillers can also be used to restore a more youthful-looking and refreshed pair of lips. With age, we may lose volume and definition on the lips and lines may begin to form. Lip filler injections will help to plump, hydrate, and minimize the appearance of those lip lines.

cheek fillers
With age, we lose volume in various areas of the face, especially the cheeks, the brows, the temples and the lips. Hollowness in the cheeks is a result of reduced collagen and elastin production, fat tissue loss and even bone shrinkage. When the integrity of the skin’s support system is compromised, the skin may begin to sag and result in deeper nasolabial folds (smile lines), jowls, and marionettes. It is important to note that volume loss in one area will affect other areas. For example, while a patient’s main concern is smile lines, we may sometimes inject in the cheeks as well because loss of volume in cheeks may have contributed to more apparent nasolabial folds. It is simply insufficient to look at sagging skin and wrinkles in isolation. To determine the most effective treatment, we always look at everything as a whole.
Fortunately, we are able to reverse signs of aging by filling the cheeks and giving the skin more structure and support. In other words, cheek fillers can effectively lift and tighten the skin and help with the appearance of nasolabial folds and jowls. After treatment, patients can expect to look more youthful and refreshed.

Jawline Fillers
Dermal fillers can be injected in the jaw area to help contour and define the jawline. The injection will also help lift the skin of the jawline area and reduce the appearance of jowls.

Facial asymmetry
Facial asymmetry may be due to genetics and/or personal habits (i.e., sleeping and chewing habits). Depending on the area and the extent of asymmetry, dermal fillers may be a viable option.

Smile line fillers
Botulinum toxin injections are effective when it comes to preventing and reducing wrinkles. However, botulinum toxin by itself may not be sufficient to rid deep static wrinkles (wrinkles that are existent without facial expression) or wrinkles and lines that are unrelated with muscle contractions.
Fillers can be used to fill deep static lines and nasolabial folds (smile lines) for facial rejuvenation.

Signature GMA 3D Harmony Nose & Chin Fillers
One of our signature dermal filler injections is our Nose & Chin GMA 3D Harmony Treatment. Our experts have noticed that when these two facial features are aesthetically enhanced and balanced at the same time, treatment outcomes are heightened with noticeable improvement in the appearance of other features and overall facial shape.
Fillers can be used to fill deep static lines and nasolabial folds (smile lines) for facial rejuvenation.

FAQs
After consultation and skin assessment, depending on the treatment area and the patient’s needs, we will select the most suitable product.
At GMA, we use only Health-Canada-approved technologies and brands including Teosyal and Juvéderm.
The price varies depending on the treatment area and amount of product required to achieve desirable results. Treatment areas that are more complex and require more medical professional expertise will cost more.
It is important to remember that when considering the cost of fillers, you are not only paying for the filler but the competency, experience, and qualifications of the professional injector. Being treated by an experienced medical professional is essential for your safety and optimal outcomes.
To limit discomfort, we apply ice or lidocaine (topical anesthetics) prior to injection. Our dermal fillers also contain lidocaine which helps to further numb the treatment site.
If this is your first treatment with GMA, expect an extra 30 minutes for consultation and skin assessment. The injection process itself is on average 30 minutes and will vary depending on:
- Number of areas to be treated
- Number of syringes required
- The complexity of the treatment area
The longevity of the filler depends on a number of factors:
- Treatment area
- Injection technique
- Patient’s own metabolism
- Product used (density of the filler)
Results vary from patient to patient and typically last anywhere from 9 to 18 months.
Yes, we are able to dissolve the fillers by injecting an enzyme known as hyaluronidase in the area of concern.
You can expect to see immediate results following injection. However, it may take up to two weeks for the filler to settle into its final shape and position as it absorbs water. Therefore, it is crucial that patients drink more water (minimum of 5-7 glasses) for up to two weeks to help the filler settle and maintain its shape.
After treatment, patients may experience some pain/discomfort at the injection site, redness, swelling, bruising, and itching. These side effects will resolve on its own and typically subside within 7-14 days.
Rare reactions include hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the gel and keloid scarring. An extremely rare adverse event is arterial or vein embolism. This occurs when the gel is injected in the blood vessel. To minimize potential risks, it is of utmost importance to find an experienced injector to perform the treatment.
Botulinum toxin is a medication injected into the face to relax muscles that contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Filler is a gel-like substance that adds volume and thus smooths and fills wrinkles. Dermal fillers can also be used to aesthetically enhance facial features.
There is usually no downtime associated with filler treatment. In some cases, patients may experience swelling for up to two weeks.
Some studies have shown that fillers can induce the production of collagen. Following treatment, some patients may notice their skin appearing more refreshed and rejuvenated.
