how painless hair removal work?

At GMA in Markham Ontario, we use MeDioStar, a high-power diode laser to perform painless laser hair removal to prevent unwanted hair from growing. In order to inhibit hair growth, a concentrated beam of light is aimed at the treatment area. The laser energy is to be absorbed by the melanin (pigment) within the hair follicle to heat up and ultimately destroy the hair follicle for permanent hair reduction.

Hair grows in indeterminate cycles, in fact, each hair follicle is undergoing its own growth cycle and in order for the procedure to be effective, the hair follicle must be caught in the growth phase, known as the anagen phase. For this reason, we recommend a minimum of 6 painless laser hair removal sessions, typically 6 weeks apart, to eventually catch this active growth phase for each hair follicle.

Due to each hair follicle growing at indeterminant cycles, it is common for patients to notice that after several hair removal sessions, some of the treatment areas have ceased to grow hair, while other parts continue to experience hair growth. It is important to complete the treatment sessions to ensure permanent hair reduction.

Painless Hair Removal

treating unwanted hair with mediostar

Our high-power diode laser represents state-of-the-art technology for permanent hair reduction treatments. Our system’s wavelength allows for high absorption of laser light by melanin and low absorption by water which translates to laser target precision. When the wavelength is precise, treatment outcomes are safer with a lower risk of side effects and more predictable outcomes. It is important to note that the MeDioStar laser is highly effective and safe to treat all skin types, up to skin type VI.

The MeDioStar minimizes discomfort and prevents overheating of skin with a powerful skin-cooling element where the superficial layer of the skin is cooled immediately before laser energy is emitted to the skin. This specialized cooling element ensures a safer and more comfortable treatment, especially for those with darker skin types.

With the MeDioStar, there is a special treatment mode known as SmoothPulse, which makes the laser pulse sensation almost unnoticeable, even for patients who are more sensitive to heat. This advanced laser mode significantly reduces the risk of laser side effects such as redness and swelling of the skin.
