what is autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?

Plasma (blood) is a liquid that contains various small components, including red cells, white cells, and platelets. While platelets play a vital role in clotting blood, it also contains healing growth factors. Those growth factors are like signal callers that give instructions to your tissue to regenerate and multiply. This has led different fields of medicine to utilize PRP to heal wounds, speed up recovery time and regrow healthier, stronger tissue.

In order to derive platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the small amount of blood that is extracted, we must go through a specialized process known as centrifuge. The centrifuging process will allow for the separation of PRP from the platelet-poor plasma (PPP) and red blood cells, creating a gel-like serum that is highly concentrated in platelets. A high concentration of growth factors in the blood translates to effective healing and skin rejuvenation.

Since the autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is processed from the patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection

benefits of pRP

Benefits of PRP hair treatment:

✔️ Increases the shaft size (thickness) of hair
✔️ Stimulates and maintains the hair growth phase
✔️ Normalizes the hair growth cycle
✔️ Minimize hair loss
✔️ Increases blood supply and thus, nutrients to the hair follicles

We generally recommend our patients to perform a series of 4 PRP hair treatments, one month apart at our Markham facility. Given that hair loss is usually associated with genetics and other internal reasons, a maintenance session is necessary every 4-6 months.

how does PRP help with hair loss?

Numerous scientific studies have discovered new PRP benefits for hair thickening and regrowth. With PRP, your growth factors and stem cells work together to reverse the miniaturization of the hair follicle and jumpstarting dormant hair back into the growth stage.

PRP is injected into the scalp so that the growth factors can work to create and stimulate new hair follicles and revive existing ones.

At GMA in Markham Ontario, we combine the patient’s PRP with a specialized cocktail of vitamin complex and copper peptides to maximize treatment results.
