Top 5 Skin Care Myths BUSTED!
YOU CAN SKIP SUNSCREEN WHEN YOU ARE INDOORS OR WHEN IT’S CLOUDY!
Fact: The truth is, you may want to wear sunscreen on a raining day or even when you are indoors. UVA rays pass through clouds and glass windows, so even on overcast days (or if you are working inside near a window) the rays can penetrate and cause damage to your skin. In winter, UV rays still occur and can reflect off snow so protection is necessary throughout the year. Recent research also suggests that blue light contributes to skin aging similar to UVA. Long-term exposure to blue light – from staring at a laptop screen, for instance – can also accelerate skin aging.
Myth #2
OILY SKIN DOESN’T NEED MOISTURIZER!
Fact: The truth is, if your skin is overproducing oil, it may actually be dehydrated. In order to compensate for the lack of moisture, oily skin produces an excess of sebum when it becomes dehydrated. This only makes it appear oilier. Make sure to choose a lightweight moisturizer that infuses your skin with hydration without potential pore-clogging ingredients, such as silicones and heavy emollients like butters and oils, as well as alcohol which will dry out your skin.
Myth #3
MY SKIN IS TOO SENSITIVE TO USE RETINOL!
Fact: If your skin is sensitive, it may be a sign that your skin barrier is compromised, so be sure to treat it with extra care. Vitamin A is a wonder-ingredient that works at the cellular level to increase skin cell turnover, produce new layers of skin even faster, and essentially rejuvenates skin from the inside out. If you know your skin is sensitive, start low and go slow! The Environ AVST step-up system helps skin become more comfortable with increased level of Vitamin A from one level to the next so that skin can enjoy all the wonderful benefits of Vitamin A without any irritation.
Myth #4
SKIN CARE INGREDIENTS SUCH AS AHAs CAN ONLY BE APPLIED AT NIGHT BECAUSE THEY INCREASE YOUR SKIN SENSITIVITY!
Fact: Alpha hydroxy acids (like lactic acid and glycolic acid) are naturally derived acids that chemically exfoliate the skin. Commonly found in skin-brightening and acne-fighting products, it works to get rid of the skin surface buildup and keep skin soft and hydrated. Due to the constant exfoliation these products provide, your face can become more susceptible to ultraviolet (UV) radiation even on days you don’t use them.
Bottom line: AHAs increase sun sensitivity, even when they’re not on your skin – slather up with sunscreen and remember to reapply regularly!
Myth #5
THE HARDER YOU CLEANSE, THE CLEARER YOUR SKIN WILL BE!!
Fact: This is an easy mistake to make. If dirt and oil are behind breakouts, it seems like it would make sense to be extra diligent about removing them, right? This isn’t so much about how frequently you’re washing your face, but which cleanser you’re using. Drying products tend to make our skin overcompensate by producing more oils which leads to more break out. We recommend a cleanser that will exfoliate but is also gentle enough that it won’t strip skin of its natural moisture. The Enviorn’s Sebu Wash is an acne face wash contains vitamin A which gently exfoliates, while vitamin B 5 helps hydrate and soothe.
We look forward to hearing from you!
