Chemical Peels Or Advanced Facials, Which One is For Me?

Myth: Have you ever heard of the myth that chemical peels and advanced facials do not complement each other and that you should choose one or the other?

Well, then let us tell to you how peels and facials offer unique solutions to our skin concerns and how they can in fact work together harmoniously to achieve optimal results.

First, let’s break down the science behind these two types of treatments.

What is the Difference Between Peels & Advanced Facials?

PEELS:

Chemical peels are advanced treatments that involve applying an acid solution (AHAs and BHAs) to the skin to facilitate our skin’s natural exfoliation process known as desquamation. The acids dissolve the alkaline bonds (glue) between our dead and dying skin cells, allowing these older skin cells to flake off at an evenly, quicker and more normal rate.

Wait- why is this necessary?

Because over time with age, our cellular renewal cycle slows little by little leading to dead skin buildup and eventually rough skin and a dull complexion.

Peels essentially renew the skin, allowing younger, more hydrated and less pigmented skin cells to emerge. Peels also help to reduce acne as it unclogs the pores of dead skin and oil buildup.

While all peels promote natural desquamation, different AHAs and BHAs have different properties and vary in strengths and depth of penetration and thus the skin types and conditions for which they are most suited.  For example, Mandelic Acid is a gentler AHA and is suitable for all skin types including sensitive and darker skin types.  Salicylic acid, on the other hand, is best for oily and acne-prone skin types as it penetrates deeper in the pores to unclog them.

ADVANCED FACIALS:

There are so many different types of advanced facial treatments involving specialized techniques, technologies and methods of application, but to us here at GMA, the main purpose is to put the right stuff – that is, all the vitamins, antioxidants, peptides, growth factors and other active ingredients – deep into the skin, where our daily skincare cannot reach.

With a series of consistent treatments, we are not only targeting the patient’s specific skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, skin sensitivity, acne and fine lines, but more importantly improving and maintaining long term skin health.

At GMA, advanced facials are always customized based on the unique skin needs and concerns of the patient.

ADVANCED FACIALS & PEELS CAN BE A POWER TEAM

Advanced facials and peels work the skin in different ways, and thus when integrated, they can more effectively conquer specific skin concerns.

Depending on the individual’s skin type and conditions, a chemical peel may be recommended to prepare and purify the skin first before an advanced facial.  This process helps to enhance penetration of active ingredients from the advanced facial and maximizes the efficacy of both treatments.
